Entrance to the clinic

Transportation:

If needed, please call your contact person to see if transportation is available. Bus lines to the clinic are #60 for Burleigh and #57 for 92nd Street.

Check In Procedure:

Please feel free to bring a support person to your appointment. If it is necessary to bring children along, we suggest that you bring someone who can supervise them during your ultrasound.

Preparations Before the Ultrasound:

One hour before your scheduled appointment you MUST drink a MINIMUM of a 16.9 oz water bottle (or it’s equivalent). No coffee or soda should be consumed as these will irritate the bladder. The ultrasound can be given ONLY if you have a full bladder- you should feel an urgency to urinate at the time of your appointment. If you must relieve yourself before the ultrasound, do so only enough to ease the pressure – do not empty your bladder. Your ultrasound will be given as quickly as possible to accommodate you.

Receiving Your Ultrasound:

Your free educational ultrasound will take approximately 15-30 minutes. You will also receive a free picture and DVD of your ultrasound to take home and show your family and friends if desired. If possible, the exam may include a 3-D sonogram of the baby for a unique viewing experience.

Do I need a referral?

No. Some women are referred to us by area and statewide pregnancy help centers, but a referral is not needed. You may contact us directly to schedule an appointment. Please call our clinic if you would like options for a free pregnancy test. Ultrasounds are provided under the direction of our prescribing physician, a licensed Ob-Gyn.

What can I expect at my appointment?

First, you will be asked to fill out a short registration form with your name, birthdate, first day of last menstrual period, as well as a quick survey. We do not ask any questions about insurance or finances. Our staff will take as much time as is necessary to discuss your individual situation. Next, you will meet with one of our registered sonographers in a fully equipped ultrasound office. She will show you images of your baby and you can see and possibly even hear the baby’s heartbeat. Depending on the stage of your pregnancy, a 3D sonogram may be able to be performed. Your sonographer will take time to describe what you are seeing on the monitor and answer any of your questions. You will be able to take home a DVD and still pictures of your ultrasound, all free of charge.

Many women find that after their ultrasound, their fears about their surprise pregnancy are reduced and they feel empowered to make the best decision for themselves and their baby.  An appointment at Eyewitness for Life also gives you the opportunity to ask questions in a judgment-free environment and to get more information about how to approach your pregnancy. You are welcome to bring a support person with you!

What happens after the exam?

Eyewitness for Life works closely with a number of organizations that can support you through your pregnancy. These organizations can help with things such as pregnancy education, parenting classes, baby supplies, abortion alternatives and family planning. We can also give you referrals to local obstetrician-gynecologists for prenatal care.

Eyewitness For Life, Ltd., is a nonprofit corporation existing under the laws of the State of Wisconsin. All ultrasounds given are nondiagnostic and provided solely for educational purposes.
